Color in Motion

Color   PLAY   Motion   Acrylic

This piece explores the universal and public nature of light, transforming it into a playful and interactive experience. At its core is a DIY kaleidoscope that invites viewers to create their own vibrant patterns using colored acrylic pieces. By looking inside, participants can see their unique creations come to life, showcasing how light, color, and movement intertwine.

Crafting this piece involved a range of materials, including wood and acrylic, and the use of various tools and software. Photoshop was essential for designing the intricate shapes, which were then laser cut. Rhino was used to calculate dimensions and engineer the rotational mechanism, including CNC machining for the kaleidoscope’s handle. Traditional tools like the band saw brought the wooden components to life, blending technology and craftsmanship seamlessly.

This kaleidoscope encourages curiosity and playfulness, reminding us of the beauty we can create when we interact with the world around us.
